Pinot Noir 2014, Reserve, Carneros, Napa Valley, Robert Mondavi, California red, $60.50, SAQ # 10219840.
A tighter, more austere vision of California pinot noir, and one that works. Typical of the cooler growing area, the fruit is red and fresh — almost juicy, at least until the tannins kick in. The wood is there, but it’s spicy. This will age nicely. Good to see such finesse and restraint from a Cali Pinot.
Residual sugar: 3.1 g/L. Grape variety: pinot noir. Serve at: 16 C.
Drink now-2024. Food pairing ideas: apéritif, filet mignon.
