Three West Island based community organizations honoured at 3rd annual neighbour of choice event
Representatives from three West Island-based nonprofit community organizations – the West Island Palliative Care Residence, NOVA West Island and West Island Community Shares -gathered at the Kirklandbased head office of Merck Canada Inc. on October 30 for the 3rd annual Neighbour of Choice event, in recognition of the hard work they each dedicate themselves for the benefit of the health and well-being of the people of the West Island.
“You are on the ground every day helping our community. And tonight, we want you to relax and have us recognize you for the good work you do, and the amazing impact you have in our community,” said Chirfi Guindo, the President and Managing Director of Merck Canada.
The event, which was emceed by Global Montreal evening news anchor Jamie Orchard, is part of a global program initiated by Merck to support the outstanding work and efforts by non-profit organizations. These organizations operate with the express aim of improving the quality of life of people, as well as preserve the environment in the communities where Merck operates.
The executive directors of the three honoured organizations – Teresa Deller from West Island Palliative Care Residence, Marie-France Juneau from NOVA West Island and Leanne Bayer from West Island Community Shares -- were invited to briefly outline what their respective organizations do for the community, and how they each impact the people they are dedicated to serve and help in their own unique way, before they were each presented with an award by Mr. Guindo, and their share of a Merck Neighbour of Choice grant that totaled $128,000.
“The recognition we receive speaks to the dedication we hold for our community,” said Ms. Bayer. “We stand up and come together to mobilize for our residents.”
