Three West Is­land based com­mu­nity or­ga­ni­za­tions hon­oured at 3rd an­nual neigh­bour of choice event

Rep­re­sen­ta­tives from three West Is­land-based non­profit com­mu­nity or­ga­ni­za­tions – the West Is­land Pal­lia­tive Care Res­i­dence, NOVA West Is­land and West Is­land Com­mu­nity Shares -gath­ered at the Kirk­land­based head of­fice of Merck Canada Inc. on Oc­to­ber 30 for the 3rd an­nual Neigh­bour of Choice event, in recognition of the hard work they each ded­i­cate them­selves for the ben­e­fit of the health and well-be­ing of the peo­ple of the West Is­land.

“You are on the ground ev­ery day help­ing our com­mu­nity. And tonight, we want you to re­lax and have us rec­og­nize you for the good work you do, and the amaz­ing im­pact you have in our com­mu­nity,” said Chirfi Guindo, the Pres­i­dent and Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor of Merck Canada.

The event, which was em­ceed by Global Mon­treal evening news an­chor Jamie Or­chard, is part of a global pro­gram ini­ti­ated by Merck to sup­port the out­stand­ing work and ef­forts by non-profit or­ga­ni­za­tions. Th­ese or­ga­ni­za­tions op­er­ate with the ex­press aim of im­prov­ing the qual­ity of life of peo­ple, as well as pre­serve the en­vi­ron­ment in the com­mu­ni­ties where Merck op­er­ates.

The ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tors of the three hon­oured or­ga­ni­za­tions – Teresa Deller from West Is­land Pal­lia­tive Care Res­i­dence, Marie-France Juneau from NOVA West Is­land and Leanne Bayer from West Is­land Com­mu­nity Shares -- were in­vited to briefly out­line what their re­spec­tive or­ga­ni­za­tions do for the com­mu­nity, and how they each im­pact the peo­ple they are ded­i­cated to serve and help in their own unique way, be­fore they were each pre­sented with an award by Mr. Guindo, and their share of a Merck Neigh­bour of Choice grant that to­taled $128,000.

“The recognition we re­ceive speaks to the ded­i­ca­tion we hold for our com­mu­nity,” said Ms. Bayer. “We stand up and come to­gether to mo­bi­lize for our res­i­dents.”
