Federation CJA will cap off its 2017 fundraising campaign and its 100th anniversary celebrations with a special closing event on November 20 at the Palais de Congres. The featured attraction at the event will be an “in conversation with” presentation with acclaimed actor Liev Schreiber. Best known for his performances in such films as the Oscar-winning “Spotlight”, the World War II drama about the Bielski Partisans in Poland “Defiance”, and in the title role of the critically-acclaimed Showtime series “Ray Donovan”, Schreiber, who rarely grants one-on-one type interviews, will speak about his career and his many past performances that prompted the New York Times to proclaim him as “the finest American theater actor of his generation.” For more information, or to purchase tickets, go to www.federationcja.org.
On November 12, the Shield of Athena Family Services organization, which has provided much needed services to women and children who suffer domestic abuse and family violence since 1991, will hold its 23rd annual Art Auction at Le 1000, located at 1000 de la Gauchetiere Street, starting at 3 p.m.
Held under the patronage of Dr. Stavroula Christopoulos and Dr.Andreas Nikolis, and hosted by Eramelinda Boquer from CJAD and Elias Makos from Breakfast Television, the auction will feature various artistic works by 32 talented artists that will be up for sale. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Shield of Athena in its mission to aid victims of family violence, as well as towards the establishment of a second Step Housing Resource transition home, which give victims a chance to recover and work towards building a safer and peaceful future for themselves. As well, a special presentation will be made at the auction in honour of Avon Canada, which donated a brand new vehicle to the Shield after their van was stolen this past March, and for their generous donation of skin care products for the residents of the Shield’s shelter.
