MOOSE JAWG CHAR­ITY ROAD RACE in sup­port of the Moose Jaw Health Foun­da­tion will be held Sunday, July 1 in Wakamow Val­ley with a 5 km and 10 km route in addition to a route for young­sters. Races be­gin at 8 a.m. In the past 10 years the race has raised more than $53,000 for the health foun­da­tion. Casino Moose Jaw is again the main spon­sor, pro­vid­ing $7,500 to the event. EYE­BROW FAIR be­gins Satur­day, July 7 with a pan­cake break­fast at 8 a.m., horse show begin­ning at 9 a.m. and con­tin­u­ing through the day, and a dis­play of house­hold arts en­tries at noon with a penny pa­rade and silent auc­tion. Slo-pitch be­gins at 10 a.m. Pete and Ruth Gorda will en­ter­tain at 11 a.m. Con­ces­sions will be open through­out the day and a sup­per will take place at 5 p.m. EARLY BIRD LI­ONS DUCK DERBY will be held Sunday, July 8 at the ser­pen­tine in Cres­cent Park. Ducks will be re­leased at 2 p.m., with prizes awarded for the best per­form­ing ducks. The derby is an an­nual pro­ject of the Early Bird Li­ons Club. MOOSE JAW MO­TIF, the 38th an­nual mul­ti­cul­tural fes­ti­val, takes place July 13-15 in Happy Val­ley Park lo­cated off Oak Street and Sixth Av­enue North­east. Hours of op­er­a­tion will be Fri­day, July 13 from 3 to 10 p.m.; Satur­day, July 14 from 1 to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, July 15 from 1 to 7 p.m. The week­end will in­clude ethnic dis­plays, food booths, entertainment and the chil­dren’s cul­tural pro­gram. Three-day passes are avail­able in ad­vance at the coun­cil of­fice at 60 Athabasca St. E. One-day passes will be avail­able at the gates. Fur­ther in­for­ma­tion is avail­able by call­ing 693-4677. SE­NIORS SLO-PITCH LEAGUE prac­tices are held Tues­days at 6:30 p.m. in Moose Jaw. Games are at 5:30 p.m. ver­sus Saska­toon in David­son. Thurs­day games are at 5:30 p.m. ver­sus Regina, al­ter­nat­ing be­tween Moose Jaw and Regina. Games are for play­ers 55 years and older and more play­ers are al­ways wel­come. Alan Millar has been drafted to a new po­si­tion with the Moose Jaw War­riors.

War­riors’ Pres­i­dent Chad Tay­lor an­nounced last week that Millar is now the club’s gen­eral man­ager, with a multi-year con­tract ex­ten­sion. Millar just com­pleted his sec­ond sea­son as the club’s direc­tor of hockey op­er­a­tions.

“On be­half of the War­riors’ board of di­rec­tors, we are very pleased with Alan’s di­rec­tion of the hockey club and his com­mit­ment to the War­riors and the City of Moose Jaw,” Tay­lor said in a news re­lease. “We are very for­tu­nate to have such an ex­pe­ri­enced hockey ex­ec­u­tive lead­ing our fran­chise,” Tay­lor said.

Tay­lor also an­nounced that Corey Ny­ha­gen, the direc­tor of busi­ness op­er­a­tions has been signed to a new multi-year agree­ment.

“We look for­ward to Corey’s con­tin­ued lead­er­ship of our busi­ness team,” said Millar.

Ny­ha­gen is en­ter­ing his fourth year with the War­riors in his cur­rent po­si­tion and prior to that was the direc­tor of sales and mar­ket­ing for one sea­son.

He led the club to the WHL’s busi­ness and mar­ket­ing award this year and was in­stru­men­tal in the team’s move into Mo­saic Place last year.

The War­riors’ pre-sea­son will open with a rookie game Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. against Swift Cur­rent at Mo­saic Place. A spe­cial ex­hi­bi­tion game against the Bron­cos is planned for Sept. 7 in Maple Creek. Swift Cur­rent then comes to Moose Jaw for a game on Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. Moose Jaw plays an ex­hi­bi­tion game Sept. 14 in Bran­don and Bran­don will be in Moose Jaw Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.

The 2012-13 reg­u­lar sea­son sched­ule will be an­nounced this week.
