Blon­deau, be­came re­spon­si­ble for Kane in May, af­ter hav­ing also been trained. The pair works with trau­ma­tized peo­ple who have been through a va­ri­ety of sit­u­a­tions. Ms. Blon­deau says that Kane au­to­mat­i­cally makes his way to the per­son who needs him the most. “He was cho­sen,” she says, be­cause of his per­son­al­ity. He is very low en­ergy, easy go­ing and quiet.” He is used to crowds, and does not re­act to sirens, noise or other dis­trac­tions. He knows 40 ver­bal com­mands, the re­sult of two and a half years of train­ing. Ms. Blon­deau both lives and works with the tal­ented dog.
