Build­ing home­grown tal­ent is the name of the game for SaskPower. 10 stu­dents scat­tered through­out Prairie South and Holy Trin­ity school di­vi­sions are com­plet­ing two high school cred­its: In­tro­duc­tion to Power Engi­neer­ing 20L and 30L and are pre­par­ing to chal­lenge in­dus­try rec­og­nized 5th Class Power Engi­neer­ing Cer­ti­fi­ca­tion in June. This year stu­dents from Moose Jaw, Central Butte, Grav­el­bourg, Avon­lea, Coronach and Assini­boia par­tic­i­pated in this ca­reer ex­plo­ration ex­pe­ri­ence. The blended learn­ing de­liv­ery model al­lows stu­dents the op­por­tu­nity to ex­plore Power Engi­neer­ing path­ways along with other trades re­gard­less of ge­o­graph­i­cal lo­ca­tion. Each course con­sists of 50-60 hours on­line the­ory and 50 hours work-study at a SaskPower plant and mo­bile steam lab. Prairie South Schools and SaskPower will con­tinue to of­fer this op­por­tu­nity to Grade 11 and 12 stu­dents.
