Moose Jaw Police Service Swears in New Officers
The Moose Jaw Police Service welcomed two new members on Friday, July 28 at the city’s Police Department. Officers Jordan Lonsberry and Yannick Da Prato were sworn in as family, friends and colleagues looked on. Lonsberry who is from Estevan and Da Prato from Montreal were sworn in under the guidance of the Honourable Judge Douglas Kovach, along with Chief Rick Bourassa. They both took the Oath of Office to serve and protect the community and the people of Moose Jaw. They were also welcomed by other colleagues, as well as Mayor Fraser Tolmie. Da Prato says he is looking forward to serving the community of Moose. “I am pretty happy to come here and the Moose Jaw Police Service is going to be awesome for me. I am happy to work in the communities; develop myself to be a better person and to meet new people. I like it here in Moose Jaw. It’s a nice city and I’m looking forward to work- ing with the team. It’s going to be a nice challenge for me and I am pretty happy with that.” Lonsberry says being a part of the police force has always been a dream of hers and she is looking forward to it. “I am a big community person. I’ve always been involved in sports and other types of activities so coming here and being able to help people is my biggest reason to come here. I am looking forward to the training at the police college, even though it will be challenging. I’ve wanted to do this since I was 18 so this is great and pretty exciting. It’s a great city. All the police officers I‘ve met so far are great and I’m looking forward to coming here to work.” Kovatch, who was also a guest speaker, highlighted how essential the work of the police is and congratulated the two on such a major accomplishment. He commended them for taking the step to protect the community. He noted that members of the Police Service are not often rewarded or highlighted for their efforts but emphasized the importance of their work and sacrifices to serve. Meanwhile, Chief Bourassa assured them that they have the full support of the Moose Jaw Police team and encouraged them to continue to work hard.
