Cen­tral wins sil­ver at boys, girls soc­cer provin­cials

The Cen­tral Cy­clones came away with a pair of sil­ver medals from the Saskatchewan High School Athletics As­so­ci­a­tion boys and girls pro­vin­cial soc­cer cham­pi­onships this past week­end.

At the boys’ tour­na­ment in North Bat­tle­ford, the Cy­clones opened with a 6-2 win over See See Wa Hum be­fore de­feat­ing Regina Rif­fel 3-2 in the pro­vin­cial semi­fi­nal. It was an­other close game in the cham­pi­onship con­test, with York­ton Sa­cred Heart edg­ing the Cy­clones 3-2.

The Pea­cock Tor­na­does were also in ac­tion and fell 5-1 to Sa­cred Heart in their opener and 5-3 to Pound­maker/Lit­tle Pine in the con­so­la­tion semi­fi­nal.

Things went sim­i­larly well for Cen­tral at the girls’ cham­pi­onship in Regina as they won their first game 2-1 over Regina Luther and ad­vanced to the fi­nal with a 1-0 vic­tory over Moose Jaw league ri­val Vanier. The ti­tle game saw Saska­toon Mar­ion Gra­ham take a 6-0 win, cap­ping a run where they scored at least six goals ev­ery game. The Vanier Spir­its won their first game 6-0 over Hum­boldt and lost in the bronze medal game 2-0 to War­man.
