Not all bad news for producers
Lewis added that he was not all that encouraged by some of the proposals and demands coming out of the negotiations.
“The dispute-resolution process, that doesn’t sound very positive either. I don’t think anyone would sign on to an agreement, where the dispute is decided in an American court,” he said.
Lewis also had concerns about the possibility of a NAFTA deal having a time limit.
“To say it’s only going to last five years, all these trade deals historically have been open ended and can be open to renegotiation. But to put an end point on a deal like this is pretty difficult,” he said.
It was not all bad news on the trade front for producers, according to Lewis, as it is possible the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) may go forward with 11 countries signing on. The TTP was a trade agreement that originally
