Melvie Visto of Edmonton says, “This photo was taken last June in Churchill Square in downtown Edmonton, where I was attending the second annual Edmonton Filipino Fiesta. I was dressed in the native attire of the Tigwahanon Manobo tribe from the northern Mindanao region in the Philippines. I believe Canada is a multicultural country that welcomes all sorts of different people from around the globe. As one of those immigrants, I was proud to wear this tribal dress to celebrate my heritage. The Tigwahanon Manobo tribe is found along the watershed of the Tigwa river; native people use the river to make a living as well as to travel from one place to another.”
