78/52 GOES UNDER THE KNIFE (AND THE SHOWER HEAD)

National Post (Latest Edition) - - POST MOVIES - Chris Knight, National Post

That odd title sounds like a math problem — the answer being 1.5 — but this film from Alexandre O. Philippe ( The People vs. George Lucas) is actually an examination of the famous shower scene from Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, referencing the number of setups and cuts the three- minute scene required. The documentary features a panoply of famous filmmakers and editors — not to mention Marli Renfro, Janet Leigh’s body double — talking up the iconic scene from just about every angle, literal and sociological. We get an overview of the period, mention of heartfelt homages in everything from The Simpsons to Raging Bull, and even the most informed Hitchcock fan will learn something. 78/52 opens Oct. 13 at the Lightbox cinema in Toronto. ∂∂∂½
