As such, it is in­cred­i­bly com­plex, with more than 100 bil­lion neu­rons com­mu­ni­cat­ing with each other us­ing bio­chem­i­cal sig­nals called neu­ro­trans­mit­ters trav­el­ling up to 360 kilo­me­tres per hour across tril­lions of synap­tic con­nec­tions.
