ON THIS DAY
March 13, 1928 — Eileen Vollick passed the federal aviation test, becoming Canada’s first female licensed pilot. Born in Wiarton, Ont., Vollick completed her training and test at the age of 19 when she flew a Curtiss JN-4“Jenny.” She learned to fly the Canadian way, on a skiequipped plane and from frozen waters. Her aerial career included wing-walking and aerobatic flying. To learn more, visit the Historica Canada website at www.historicacanada.ca
