NDP Leader Jag­meet Singh has never been more pow­er­ful since he de­cided to prop up the minority Trudeau govern­ment; the ex­pres­sion “spend­ing like drunken sailor” — with no dis­re­spect to the ma­rine crowd — must have been taken from the NDP elec­tion plat­form. Now the Lib­er­als have wily adopted Sing’s pro­pos­als for more sick leave ben­e­fits, which are ac­tu­ally a provin­cial mat­ter, and a fund­ing boost for those who have lost work. Singh is no fool, his party is fi­nan­cially in dire straits and might have trou­ble field­ing a full slate of can­di­dates when the next writ is dropped. How­ever that power could be short-lived when the folks have a chance to cast their bal­lots down the road and re­mem­ber that he was re­spon­si­ble for pro­long­ing the life of a po­lit­i­cally bank­rupt regime.
