Mountain landmark loses racist name

-

Stoney Nakoda women elders have revealed a new name for a landmark in the Alberta Rockies with a racist and misogynistic nickname. Known since the 1920s as Squaw’s Tit, the Mount Charles Stewart feature can be seen from Canmore. A ceremony was held Tuesday to bring back the original name: Anu katha Ipa, or Bald Eagle Peak. The derogatory nickname has been used in hiking and climbing guides, on Google maps and on trail websites.
