March 27, 1930 The Edmonton Grads beat the Seattle Ferry Lines by 59 points over two games to retain the Underwood Trophy and the women’s international basketball title. The Grads began in 1915, becoming world champs in 1923, a title they held for 17 years. Basketball inventor James Naismith called them,“the finest team to ever step out on a floor.” The latest Heritage Minute, released earlier this month, tells their story.
