EXTREME ICEBERG
PHOTOJOURNALIST TYLER ANDERSON DOCUMENTS THE SIGHTS AND STORIES OF THE ATLANTIC WHILE ON BOARD THE POLAR PRINCE ICEBREAKER IN ICEBERG ALLEY.
On June 1, the Canada C3 expedition left Toronto on a 150-day circumnavigation of the country. Scientists, artists, historians and youth ambassadors are travelling coast-to-coast-to-coast on a 15-leg journey that will pass through the Northwest Passage en route to Victoria. On July 12, National Post photojournalist Tyler Anderson boarded a 67-metre research icebreaker in St. John’s, shortly after the ship turned north for Leg 5 of the journey. For the following 10 days, the Polar Prince icebreaker shuttled its passengers and crew along the shore of Newfoundland and Labrador. The ship visited Brimstone Head on Fogo Island and travelled the path of the Vikings to reach the UNESCO World Heritage Site at L’Anse aux Meadows. Anderson filed an online mariner’s log of the journey, documenting the ship’s passage through iceberg alley, and shared sights and stories of the Atlantic Ocean and the coastal communities that populate its banks. Here are a selection of the images he posted.
