OFF THE TOP GOLDEN GIRLS EPISODE GETS YANKED

- WENN

Amid international Black Lives Matter protests, numerous TV shows, including The Office, 30 Rock and Little Britain, have seen episodes removed because of their inclusion of blackface. Hulu recently pulled a Golden Girls episode, Mixed Blessings. Bea Arthur’s (pictured) character Dorothy is introduced to her son’s fiancée, a Black woman, with Rue McClanahan’s Blanche and Betty White’s Rose in mud masks when they meet the lady — played by Rosalind Cash. “This is mud on our faces,” Rose says. “We’re not really black.” Many slammed Hulu’s response. “First of all, they were in mud masks not blackface,” someone tweeted. “And second of all, in what world does ‘Stop killing us.’ sound like ‘Please remove episodes of Golden Girls?’ I didn’t see that ask on anyone’s protest sign ...” “... These companies and media platforms are trivializing the situation by sending the message that our demand for justice is as petty as removing episodes of the Golden Girls off a streaming platform. This is a calculated effort to cheapen our message,” another concurred.
