Province puts $24M into green training
The province is putting $24 million into training that will help apprentices and tradespeople learn to build green. Funds will come from Ontario’s cap and trade program. London North Centre MPP Deb Matthews made the announcement Thursday morning at the London headquarters of the Labourers International Union of North America (LiUNA) . “It’s about training people who know how to do that work,” Matthews said. Part of the province’s climate change plan, Matthews said the benefits of building green are broad. “We all benefit when we can collectively reduce our carbon footprint, not just because it’s better for our environment, but also because it’s less expensive,” she said, pointing to building swaps like more effective HVAC or plumbing systems.
