de­spite the many ac­tiv­i­ties and events around the area last satur­day, more than 120 peo­ple stopped by Cal­lan­der to of­fer their con­grat­u­la­tions to, and ex­am­ine the lo­cal art­work of, david Car­lin and his 50 years in the hole ex­hibit.

guests at­tended from the im­me­di­ate area and from places such as Lon­don, Toronto, Chisholm, scar­bor­ough, Cobalt, Whitby, oshawa and aylmer, Que.

The alex dufresne gallery was packed by 2:15 pm, and dur­ing the open­ing re­marks peo­ple con­tin­ued to file in. Cal­lan­der Coun. heather busch and mayor hec­tor Lav­i­gne were on hand to of­fer their con­grat­u­la­tions, and Lav­i­gne pre­sented Car­lin with a cer­tifi­cate of recog­ni­tion on be­half of the mu­nic­i­pal­ity, thank­ing him for his pro­mo­tion of the arts in Cal­lan­der and con­grat­u­lat­ing him on this artis­tic mile­stone.

The show, 50 years in the mak­ing, is a look back at Car­lin’s art which be­gins with many car­bon pen­cil draw­ings and wa­ter­colours, and then tran­si­tions into mixed me­dia, sculp­tures and paint­ings – many of which com­bine the three el­e­ments to­gether – and con­cludes with three dif­fer­ent video pro­jec­tions.

The ex­hibit will re­main on dis­play un­til Nov. 4 and cur­rent gallery hours are Thurs­day – satur­day from 10-5 pm., Tues­days and Wed­nes­days are avail­able by ap­point­ment by call­ing ahead at 705-752-2282 ext. 502 or email­ing mu­seum@cal­lan­ The gallery is at 107 Lans­downe st. e. in Cal­lan­der.
