Single ice pad, not four needed
to the editor: Why not build the new arena at the existing West Ferris community centre site? Why would we have to lose a significant part of tweedsmuir park. as Coun. mark King says: Who really wants that property?
We already lost 15-20 feet off that side of the park, ostensibly for soccer parking. i guess the parking lot at the centre was too far to walk.
and Coun. darryl Vaillancourt , it doesn’t take a $60,000 study to figure out if schools are closing because enrolment is so low and North bay’s population has fallen by 2,000 since the last census. We really don’t need a double, let alone a quadruple ice pad.
So, if we only need a single ice pad, why not build it at the present community centre site. We already know it can house a single ice pad and we wouldn’t have to lose any of our park.
Sadly, when the dust settles and we have another expensive and wasted study to pay for, city council will probably end up building a double ice pad arena right where they intended to put it in the first place and the West Ferris community centre, the heart of our community for many years, will be sold off to the developer who wanted it in the first place.
