North Bay residents who have settled on who they will vote for in the municipal election will be able to cast ballots starting early next month.

Advance polls will operate between Oct. 3 and Oct. 12, making voting accessible to those who may not be able to get out on election day and allowing others the chance to beat the rush.

City clerk Karen Mcisaac says six advance polls will be held next month, starting Oct. 3 and running for four consecutive days until Oct. 6. Advance polls will then operate for another three consecutive days, starting Oct. 10 and wrapping up Oct. 12.

Locations include Memorial Gardens, Castle Arms II at 480 Olive Street, PHARA at 280 Oakwood Avenue and Place Richelieu at 340 Lakeshore Drive. The advance polls will operate from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., except on Oct. 4, when voting will take place between noon and 7 p.m.

Mcisaac says it’s a good idea for residents to check to ensure they’re on the voters list. That can be done by calling the clerk’s office 474-0626, ext. 2522.

She says residents will also get a good indication as to whether they’re on the list when voter information cards go out, likely during the week of Sept. 17.

Voting Day is Oct. 22. North Bay residents this time around will decide on one mayor from among four hopefuls and 10 councillors from among 26 candidates.

Mcisaac says residents who are unsure of their polling station can visit the election 2018 section at the city’s website – www.cityofnorthbay.ca – in order to find the location.

She says the city has hired about 100 people to work the municipal election, noting training is set to start next week. In addition, Mcisaac says 24 city workers will be serving as tabulators on Voting Day, while six others will work as runners.
