Bears spotted near school
There have been a couple of reported bear sightings near Vincent Massey Public School this week.
School staff contacted the North Bay-mattawa Conservation Authority Wednesday morning after a black bear cub was spotted Tuesday night and again Wednesday morning at about 8 a.m. at the elementary school, located adjacent to the trailhead at Laurentian escarpment Conservation Area on Janey Avenue.
A sign has been erected at the trailhead and will remain there for 72 hours advising those using the trails of the bear sighting.
Bear sightings are normal for this time of year as the tree nuts are available and bears begin foraging in preparation for their winter hibernation.
