Canadore student wins screen award

Canadore Col­lege dig­i­tal cin­e­matog­ra­phy student Morn­ingstar Derosier was awarded The Ellen Mon­aque Award for Best Youth Work at the imag­i­ne­na­tive Film and Me­dia Arts Fes­ti­val last month.

Derosier, of Migisi Sah­gaigan (Ea­gle Lake First Na­tion), won the award for her se­cond-year film pro­ject, A World of Our Own. The film won out against its com­pe­ti­tion, which in­cluded sub­mis­sions from es­tab­lished pro­fes­sion­als from around the world.

The ac­co­lade was pre­sented at the TIFF Bell Light­box Theatre and came with a $500 cash award spon­sored by RBC and the Hum­ber Col­lege Abo­rig­i­nal Re­source Cen­tre.

Canadore Col­lege’s dig­i­tal cin­e­matog­ra­phy and First Peo­ples’ Cen­tre brought nine stu­dents to ex­pe­ri­ence the film fes­ti­val, which took place Oct. 17-21 in Toronto.
