PREDICTIONS MADE BY OUR SPRING PANEL

Were panellists in tune with the 2017 real estate market or did they miss the mark?

I think just because the prices are getting high, the market is going to slow down. The amount of development is going to slow down because I just don’t think the buyers are going to be there at that price. We’re going to hit a point where it’s hard for anyone to justify the numbers we’re seeing.

The year 2017 will be a lot like 2016, but it will precipitate action by the province. So I think that Kathleen Wynne, Patrick Brown, Andrea Horwath and John Tory will all resist the scapegoating of immigrants that you’re seeing south of the border. But I do believe the province will come up with a strategy around affordable home ownership.

I don’t see any stopping of this.… It’s going to be strong, and our condo work, literally, we’re selling buildings in days. So when we meet again next year, I don’t see any change. The only thing I see is higher prices.
