FALL IN LOVE WITH ART
Can’t-miss September art happenings
Yorkville’s Mira Godard Gallery will host the exhibition Drawings and Prints, featuring works of acclaimed Canadian painter Alex Colville, Sept. 15 to Oct. 6. Recently, the Art Gallery of Ontario hosted a major exhibition of works by the late East Coast artist best known for his magic-realism paintings such as 1965’s To Prince Edward Island (pictured above).
On Sept. 29, the city once again hosts the all-night art extravaganza Nuit Blanche with two downtown hubs, at Nathan Phillips Square and Yonge-Dundas Square, as well as the Scarborough Town Centre. Special projects include a dance and circus performance called Continuum. Go to Nuitblancheto.ca for details.
The Art Gallery of Ontario is hosting this intriguing weekend, Sept. 13–15, of speakers and conversations “focused on shifting the current global interest in Indigenous arts to be one that is Indigenous-led.” The event is held in conjunction with the Rebecca Belmore: Facing The Monumental exhibition, on until Oct. 21.
