Make a Difference in This Season of Giving

North Toronto Post - - Charitable Giving Guide -

With winter upon us, many families look forward with anticipation to a joyous festive season. For far too many others, however, the cold months ahead will bring fear, stress and uncertainty. It may even mean sleeping on a frigid street, after being turned away from an overcapacity shelter.

Our city is seeing growing disparity between wealth and poverty, and the face of poverty is changing. Toronto’s poverty is no longer confined to the fringes of society; the face of poverty may be that of your neighbour, your employee or even a family member.

Now is the time to create real change in our city, to ensure equitable opportunities and access for all.

With the help of a caring and generous community, WoodGreen Community Services provides affordable housing and the comprehensive, holistic supports that help to stabilize people, no matter what their entry point into poverty.

Whether it is providing transitional housing for newcomers or street-involved clients, helping vulnerable seniors age at home, rescuing women and children from shelters and abuse, or providing a promising future for youth “aging out” of the child welfare system, WoodGreen is there.

WoodGreen creates the network necessary to help close the gaps of inequity. We’re breaking the cycle of poverty, bolstering independence and creating new paths to opportunity, through innovative solutions to critical social issues. Each year, WoodGreen supports more than 37,000 disadvantaged individuals — from infants to seniors — easing their lives and helping them to reset their futures. But there is so much more to be done.

In this season of giving, we ask you to remember those less fortunate — to make a real difference — and help WoodGreen spread comfort and joy to some of the most vulnerable residents of our city.

Your generous holiday gift will make Toronto a more liveable place for all.
