Voodoos de­feat Min­ers

The North­ern On­tario Ju­nior Hockey League-lead­ing Powassan Voodoos picked up a goal and an as­sist apiece from both Cade Herd and Tyson Gil­mour Sun­day to help their side skate to a 5-1 de­ci­sion over the Kirkland Lake Gold Min­ers at the Joe Mavrinac Com­mu­nity Com­plex.

Powassan took a 1-0 lead af­ter one pe­riod of play on a Tyson Gil­mour ef­fort at 4:45.

Tyler Gil­berds’ fifth of the sea­son added an­other for the Voodoos early in the mid­dle stanza be­fore Herd upped the vis­i­tors cush­ion mid­way through the con­test with his 10th goal over­all.

Kirkland Lake did get one back be­fore the frame was com­plete com­pli­ments of Sam Ell­wood’s sec­ond tally of the cam­paign.

How­ever Powassan put the game away in the third pick­ing up mark­ers Eric Mon­doux and Ryan The­ri­ault to se­cure the vic­tory. Gra­ham Dynes made 25 saves to record the win for the Voodoos while Ryan Win­ter saw 42 shots fired his way in de­feat for the Gold Min­ers.
