Giant lobster returned to the sea

Colemans at the Gardens on O’Connell Drive in Corner Brook recently discovered a giant lobster in a shipment from a local seafood supplier.

The 15-pound lobster, nick- named Chuck by the company’s seafood buyer Ruby Grandy, created lots of excitement at the seafood counter, particularly with the children’s grocery store tours.

After a couple of weeks of liv- ing at the Gardens and in consultation with marine biologist, Robert Hooper of the Bonne Bay Marine Station in Norris Point, everyone agreed the best outcome for this 50-plus-yearold lobster would be to release him back into the ocean.

On Monday, Gardens seafood manager Mike Snooks carefully packed up the giant lobster for his car ride to the beach.

After removing the bands on the lobster’s claws, Snooks watched as the giant lobster slowly backed himself into the cold, clear water and eventually disappeared into the depths of the Bay of Islands.
