Breanna Clarke raises over $3,500 for Janeway
Nine-year-old has been fundraising for four years
MAIN BROOK, NL – The generosity and initiative of young Breanna Clarke has inspired her community and the whole area to give money to children in need.
This year, the nine-year-old from Main Brook raised $3,560 for the Janeway Children’s Hospital. It has been her most successful year since she started fundraising for the hospital four years ago.
Breanna’s walk-a-thon for the Janeway tends to be the big draw, though this year fewer people were out for it due to other events taking place around the same time. The event was held in Main Brook May 13.
Breanna has been fundraising since January with a bingo, a rummage sale, tickets on a gift basket, and a 50/50 draw from the Main Brook Fire Department.
Through all that hard work and organizing, she was able to help the Janeway with a handsome sum of money.
Breanna started fundraising after watching the Janeway Telethon at age five. According to her mother, Regina BromleyClarke, with tears in her eyes she asked, “Mom, can I help?”
Regina suggested fundrais- ing, explaining the Janeway can use the money for equipment and supplies.
The next year, after Christmas, everything took off.
Her goal at the time was to hit the $10,000 mark in four years. She’s exceeded this, having raised $10,990.
Breanna’s slogan every year is “Thank you for helping me help the Janeway.” With all the support she received from her community, the Great Northern Peninsula, and family from Labrador City to Alberta, she got a lot of help in a big way.
She wished to thank everyone for their help in her fundraising.
“The generosity is unreal,” says her mother.
