Rising UFC star Gavin Tucker returns to the cage with Edmonton fight
Gavin Tucker, the Ship Cove, N.L. native who fights out of Halifax, will make his sophomore appearance in the UFC octagon seven months after he wowed the crowd at UFC Fight Night 105.
Tucker, 30, will return to the cage on Sept. 9 at UFC 216 in Edmonton against fellow featherweight Rick Glenn.
Tucker is 10-0 in his professional fighting career, including a unanimous decision victory over UFC veteran Sam Sicilia in Halifax back in February.
At the time, Tucker—who trains out of Titans MMA in Halifax, used the home crowd to his advantage and ran circles around Sicilia, but could not land the knockout.
“I wanted to finish in my debut, but Sam’s tough,” Tucker said following the win in February. “I don’t know if everyone’s got skulls like that in the UFC.”
Tucker will have his hands full once again as his opponent has the edge in experience and size.
Despite being two years younger than Tucker, Glenn (19-4-1) has 14 more fights worth of experience and is 1-1 in the UFC.
At an even six feet, the Iowa-native is also five inches taller than Tucker. He earned a split decision win over Phillipe Nover in his last fight on Feb. 11.
This is the only fight to be announced so far for UFC 216.
