Cyril Sim­monds re­ceives high­est hon­our in Lions Club

ST. AN­THONY, NL – One of the mem­bers of the St. An­thony Lions Club has re­ceived the or­ga­ni­za­tion’s high­est hon­our.

Cyril Sim­monds re­ceived the Melvin Jones Fel­low­ship Award from District Gover­nor (N3) Doug Genge at the St. An­thony Lions Club Oct. 5.

The award is named after the founder of Lions Club In­ter­na­tional. It is given to in­di­vid­u­als for their achieve­ment and ded­i­ca­tion to the or­ga­ni­za­tion.

Sim­monds has been a mem­ber of the St. An­thony Lions Club since 1993.

Dur­ing his time in the Lions, he has acted in var­i­ous ca­pac­i­ties in the club and in the district. Sim­monds has been pres­i­dent, zone chair, mem­ber­ship chair, first and sec­ond district gover­nor, and district gover­nor.

Cur­rently, he is serv­ing as the first vice-pres­i­dent of the St. An­thony Lions Club and as zone chair for re­gion N3.

The pre­sen­ta­tion took place dur­ing one of the St. An­thony Lions Club’s monthly meet­ing.

District Gover­nor Genge came from An­chor Point to at­tend and speak at the meet­ing.

Dur­ing the meet­ing, St. An­thony Lions mem­ber Eli Row­bot­tom was also pre­sented a sil­ver key for bring­ing in two new mem­bers in the Lions’ cen­ten­nial year, 2016.

Mem­ber Ephraim Sparks was also to be pre­sented an award for serv­ing in the Lions for 45 years, but was not in at­ten­dance.
