ST. ANTHONY, NL – New and returning members of St. Anthony town council made it official Monday evening, Oct. 2.

While long-serving mayor Ernest Simms and Ralph Hedderson were departing from their roles, the team bid them farewell with plenty of laughs and parting advice.

Simms reminded the group of efforts and achievements the council is continuing to strive for, and the best ways to keep professional and personal matters separate.

Simms also said this was not necessarily the end of his political career, though he felt it was time to step down from this position.

Before the meeting ended, newly appointed mayor Desmond McDonald encouraged council about the importance of working as a team.

Former Mayor Ernest Simms and former councillor Ralph Hedderson show off their plaques as they pass the torches of council to new members.
