NORTHUMBERLAND — A Canada 150 celebration of the stories of immigrants to Northumberland will be presented to the public next month.

From Nov. 10 until the end of the year, there will be 150 images and artifacts on display at the Art Gallery of Northumberland, says county spokesperson Kate Campbell.

It is a joint presentation between the county and the art gallery and is called: “When We Came From Away.”

This “collection of accounts from local residents about their own immigration experience, or that of their parents or grandparents” will be “accompanied by a photo or a memento brought to Canada from the immigrant’s place of birth, representing the intersection between a former way of life, and a new beginning, as each individual has integrated into a new community,” states a media release.

There will be a companion publication containing 27 stories and 75 images of arrival.

“Every person has a story, and every one of these stories makes up the collective history of our community,” the release also states.

An invitation-only grand opening is planned at which more information will be revealed.
