PORT HOPE — After completing a Community Improvement Needs Study for downtown Port Hope last year, consultants are now presenting a Community Improvement Project Area (CPIA) and “preliminary incentive programs” at an upcoming public meeting, and then to council.

There will be two options presented, says the municipality’s marketing manager.

“One includes the (vacant, former) File Factory and the other doesn’t,” Kevin Narraway said in an interview Monday.

The former factory (which has been plagued by vandalism for years) is located outside the downtown revitalization area identified in the town’s strategic plan.

In addition to the two options being presented, there will be a business case presented which focuses on creating a “development charge grant” using a local downtown property and the specifics around that, he explained.

“The (consultant’s) presentation will be followed by a break-out into small discussion groups where your thoughts on the preliminary CIP and incentive programs will be discussed,” states a media release from the Town of Port Hope about the Tuesday, Nov. 21 public meeting open to all members of the public including business and property owners, as well as people who work in the downtown.

The event takes place in the town hall council chambers from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

After the public meeting, the consultant’s recommendations will go to Port Hope’s committee of the whole and there will be a final report to council before the end of the year that includes feedback from the public and councillors, Narraway said.

People are asked to contact Kevin Narraway, marketing manager, Municipality of Port Hope, at 905-376-6737 or via e-mail at KNarraway@porthope.ca, if they have any questions or need more information.
