SPRINGDALE, NL — Sherry Taylor of Paradise is ready to hit the road to sell her handicrafts at the 32nd Annual Craft and Trade Show at Springdale Stadium Sept. 7-9.

The event is special to her and husband Ralph Taylor because it is a chance to visit with family and friends they have made over the years.

Taylor has been making the trip to Springdale for about 15 years, using the annual showcase as a time for a holiday with her sister, Fay Rideout.

“Myself and my husband look forward to this trip to my sister’s in Springdale every year,” she said.

Taylor’s handmade crafts include everything from quilting and sewing to woodwork and floral arrangements.

“I have quilts, I have placemats and runners, I have coffee mats, I have towels that you hang on your oven door, and baby bibs and a few adult bibs,” she said, listing some of the handiwork she’ll be selling at the show.

Her woodwork

snowman plaques have also become popular at various craft shows over the years.

For Taylor, attending the show in Springdale runs much deeper than making a few dollars to cover expenses associated with the trip. It’s about reconnecting with people she’s met over the years, catching up on what they have been doing, and sharing the joys and sorrows they’ve encountered since the previous year.

“Some of the customers you’ve seen for years,” she said. “You share in the excitement about new children that have been brought into the world. You share their sadness about someone who has passed belonging to them.”

Following the show in Springdale, Taylor will continue to sell her handiwork at various craft fairs throughout the province leading up to Christmas.

According to information posted on www.newfoundlandandlabrador.com website, businesses and crafts people from across Newfoundland and Labrador are given the opportunity to display their products and services at the Springdale Craft and Trade Show. This year there will be more than 85 booths, with about 4,000 people expected to attend.

The Taylors hope to continue making the trip to Springdale for a long time.

“I’ve only got another four years until I retire (from my full-time job),” she said. “As long as I can do this I will do it. And I’ll enjoy it all the more when I retire.”
