$38.8 mil­lion for mu­nic­i­pal in­fra­struc­ture an­nounced in Bot­wood

The pro­vin­cial gov­ern­ment an­nounced $38.8 mil­lion for projects sup­port­ing im­prove­ments in mu­nic­i­pal in­fra­struc­ture last week dur­ing a stop in Bot­wood.

Pre­mier Dwight Ball, was joined by a num­ber of politi­cians, said the in­vest­ments al­lo­cated un­der the Small Com­mu­ni­ties Fund and pro­vin­cial Mu­nic­i­pal Cap­i­tal Works pro­gram will also

bring ben­e­fits and busi­nesses.

The pre­mier was joined by the Mu­nic­i­pal Af­fairs and En­vi­ron­ment Min­is­ter Ed­die Joyce; Jerry Dean, MHA for Ex­ploits; and Scott Simms, mem­ber of Par­lia­ment for Coast of Bays-Cen­tralNotre Dame.

About $29.3 mil­lion has been al­lo­cated for 77 projects un­der

to

res­i­dents the Small Com­mu­ni­ties Fund for mu­nic­i­pal in­fra­struc­ture projects. The pro­vin­cial share in th­ese projects will be $17.4 mil­lion and the fed­eral share is $11.9 mil­lion.

Through th­ese in­vest­ments, a wide va­ri­ety of com­mu­ni­ty­ori­ented projects have been ap­proved, in­clud­ing:

The Town of Bot­wood’s sewage sys­tem up­grades;

The Town of Stephenville’s up­grades to its wa­ter and sewer sys­tem;

The Town of Paradise’s up­grades to its road sys­tem;

Husky En­ergy Easter Seals House’s fully-ac­ces­si­ble and in­clu­sive com­mu­nity park.

Ball and Joyce also an­nounced $9.5 mil­lion has been al­lo­cated for 28 com­mu­ni­ties un­der the new pro­vin­cial Mu­nic­i­pal Cap­i­tal Works pro­gram. Some of th­ese projects in the Green Bay area were an­nounced when the group stopped in Spring­dale later in the day.

“Con­tribut­ing to well-de­vel­oped in­fra­struc­ture en­sures a higher stan­dard of liv­ing for res­i­dents,” Ball stated in a press re­lease. “By work­ing closely with the fed­eral and mu­nic­i­pal gov­ern­ments, we are able to ad­vance in­fra­struc­ture projects that ben­e­fit com­mu­ni­ties and con­trib­ute to eco­nomic devel­op­ment and busi­nesses growth. Our gov­ern­ment is lev­er­ag­ing avail­able funds for max­i­mum gain.”

Joyce said the in­fra­struc­ture in com­mu­ni­ties are re­ceiv­ing up­grades, strength­en­ing the in­fra­struc­ture through­out the prov­ince through bet­ter ac­cess to wa­ter, pro­tect­ing the en­vi­ron­ment by in­vest­ing in waste­water in­fra­struc­ture, and ad­vanc­ing re­gional col­lab­o­ra­tion and shar­ing of ser­vices.
