Local runners give it all at cross-country running provincials
Indian River High senior girls finish third
GANDER, NL — A balanced team effort helped the Indian River High senior girls to a thirdplace showing in the senior girls provincial cross-country running competition in Gander this past weekend.
Springdale girls Mikayla Tuck, Jessica Jacobs and Maria Lawlor finished the race in 14th, 15th, and 16th positions. Teammates Cierara Chatman placed 20th and Megan Paddock finished 22nd.
The senior boys out of Indian River High finished as the fourth place team. Joey Sparkes was the best finisher of the group, placing 16th. Mitchell Downton was 19th, Kyle Tuck was 28th, Aaron Saunders 29th, and Matt Locke was 35th. Benjamin Tizzard of Dorset Collegiate in Pilley’s Island finished the race in 7th place.
The junior girls team out of Indian River High also finished fourth in the competition. Cassie Hewlett was the team’s top performer, placing 17th. Brooke Clarke finished 22nd, Kylea Keough was 24th, Rebecca Northcotte 26th, and Allie Ann Oxford was 34th. Sarah Warren of Dorset Collegiate finished 29th.
The Dorset Collegiate junior boys ran their way to a fourth place finish. Jesse Short had the best individual performance on the team with an 11th place finish. Logan Colbourne placed
26th, Carter Walters was 29th, and Ashton Blackler was 34th. Kaelan Rideout of Valmont Academy in King’s Point had a
28th place finish.
