Braves and Sabres earn splits on open­ing week­end of se­nior hockey

BAIE VERTE, NL — The twotime de­fend­ing Cen­tral Se­nior In­ter­me­di­ate Hockey League cham­pion North­east Sabres kicked off the new sea­son Satur­day night with a 7-2 vic­tory over the Ex­ploits Blades.

How­ever, they couldn’t keep the mo­men­tum go­ing on home ice at the Tommy Rick­etts Arena Sun­day, fall­ing to the same Blades team by a 10-5 mar­gin.

Goal scor­ers were un­avail­able for the games out of Baie Verte.

The ex­pan­sion Springdale Braves fell short in their first game of the 2017/2018 sea­son, los­ing on the road 2-1 to the Lewis­porte Sea­hawks. Josh Os­mond scored a late goal for the Braves to pro­vide some hope for late hero­ics that didn’t come to fruition.

The Braves re­bounded nicely from the loss in Game 2. They jumped out to 3-0 and 4-1 leads be­fore hold­ing on for a 4-3 win — their first of the cam­paign and re­turn to se­nior hockey.

Keith Noble, Chris Budgell, Jor­dan Snow and Dave Byrne all scored for the Braves in the win.

Goal scor­ers were pro­vided by the Braves.
