Women won’t be bait

NOW Magazine - Anniversary special - - Toronto Symphony Orchestra -

T.O. cops got into hot water when, hoping to set a trap for a sexual predator, they failed to tell Riverdale women that a series of attacks had taken place in the area. They underestimated the next rape victim. Using the name Jane Doe, she successfully sued the police for using her as bait in a case that led to a review by the auditor general – and to a stinging indictment of the force’s sexual assault squad. The Story Of Jane Doe (Vintage), Jane Doe’s book about her ordeal and her gutsy activism, came out in 2003.
