LAI WAH HEEN Metropoli­tan Ho­tel, 108 Chest­nut, 416977-9899 The New York Times, no less, has deemed this luxe ho­tel dining room’s dim sum “maybe the best in North Amer­ica,” so who are we to ar­gue? Although you’re more than likely to be seated next to a con­ven­tion-at­tend­ing den­tist from Des Moines than a card­car­ry­ing epi­cure, Hong Kong-trained chef Terence Chan’s pa­rade of plates – sea­horse-shaped won­tons stuffed with scal­lops and pricey con­ploy, “bum­ble bees” fash­ioned from panko-crusted crab frit­ters striped with foamy cala­mari mousse – never fail to im­press. Over on Spad­ina, the far less ex­pen­sive and more tra­di­tional daily spread at Rol San is our Chi­na­town choice.
