NOW Magazine - Best of Toronto - - Food -

Live-wire chef and owner of Live Organic Food Bar (264 Dupont, 416-515-2002).

Where do you go for specialty items?

“I go to K&K (298A Spadina, 416-979-3435) for all my tropical fruit, especially for durian. I get all my avocados at Caribbean Corner (171 Baldwin, 416-593-0008) and my Latin American hot peppers – serranos, habaneros – at Perola (247 Augusta, 416-593-9728). At Dufferin Grove Park’s farmers market on Thursdays, Fun Guy Farms (fungi, get it?) has the best mushrooms, and I like

Essence of Life (50 Kensington, 416-920-3377) for seaweed and Japanese macrobiotics.

What do you do on your rare days off?

“I’m an information junkie, so I usually go up to Indigo (2300 Yonge, 416-364-4499) and then go see a movie. I keep up with what’s happening at the Cookbook Store (850 Yonge, 416-920-2665), and Seekers (509 Bloor West, 416-925-1982) and Eternal Moment (497 Bloor West 416-924-3780) are good for books about spirituality. And I’ve been going to the Bloor-Gladstone Library (1101 Bloor West, 416-393-7674) since I was a kid. It’s great – I never see anybody I know!”
