DESIGNER DEBUTS AND RETAIL SCOOPS
It’s fitting that NOW’s gone glossy for our fall fashion issue, considering that the big style idea we’ve latched onto this season is an evening wear and neo- grunge mashup hatched by labels like Jeremy Laing, Pink Tartan and even humble Joe Fresh (see feature Glitter And Doom on page 16).
Like a sequined dress or gilded brogue, slick paper stock goes a long way toward upping the fashion ante, but we’re keeping things grounded by focusing on the Toronto designers and boutiques that inspire us most.
Flip over to Style Notes (page 4) for the buzz on retail debuts, Fashion Week’s new home and local label Muttonhead.
Our Take 5 trend spots (pages 6 to 11) highlight fall’s best florals, duffle coats, colourful footwear and classic handbags. There’s also a new approach to jewel tones in Beauty Tip (page 12), and a We Want feature on Hoi Bo and Mjölk’s new designer- collaboration carryall (page 23).
That bag earns buy- of-the-season kudos for its timeless, genderless appeal, but also because it proves covetable things can happen when smart style minds come together. So read on to source your own autumn mix, and don’t miss the Retail Index (page 23) for info on where to buy it all.
