One of our finest play­wrights, Judith Thomp­son works cre­atively in a num­ber of ways, in­clud­ing de­vel­op­ing new tal­ent as a prof at the Univer­sity of Guelph.

Sev­eral years ago she col­lab­o­rated with a group of women to write about is­sues of body im­age and self-es­teem, shap­ing the script Body And Soul that they per­formed. At last year’s Next Stage, she used the same process to share the sto­ries of young peo­ple deal­ing with chronic ill­ness; the ac­claimed re­sult was The Grace Project.

Now Thomp­son’s work­ing with nine peo­ple with Down syndrome who will share their ex­pe­ri­ences in a work called Rare. It’s sure to be mov­ing, dra­matic and up­lift­ing.
