(Dennis Mohr, Canada). 52 minutes. Rating: NNN Although it’s illegal to publish the photographs of criminals taken as they’re arrested in Canada, it’s a lucrative industry in the U. S., where websites cash in on the misery of the accused.

Director Dennis Mohr goes through the history of the mug shot and explains its appeal – people, including celebrities, at their most vulnerable – but he fails to make a convincing argument for its artistic value.

The most compelling interviews are with ex- cons who want the right to forget their past but are forced to live on in infamy via their mug shots. SGC Apr 28, 7 pm, Isabel Bader Theatre; Apr 29, 4 pm, Isabel Bader Theatre; May 3, 1 pm, Scotiabank Theatre 3.
