(Malcolm Ingram, U. S.). 99 minutes. Rating: NNNN No question the tide is turning in the U. S. on LGBT issues, and nowhere is this more evident than in the sports world. Malcolm Ingram presents the courageous athletes who came out publicly and survived the intense public scrutiny: Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King, baseballer Billy Bean, footballer Michael Sam, WNBA star Brittney Griner, hoops guys John Amaechi, Jason Collins and more.
It’s plainly designed as an inspirational doc (there’s no mention of the fact that Sam has been relegated to Dancing With The Stars), and as such it works. Everyone from Navratilova to current college footballer Conner Mertens describes coming out as the smartest thing they’ve ever done.
