(Sharon Shattuck, U. S.). 74 minutes. Rating: NNNN In this tender story of a family dealing with a father’s male-to-female transition, director Sharon Shattuck looks back on her own experiences. Her dad became Trisha when she and her sister were young girls.

In interviews with parents and townspeople and the diary Trisha kept via her vibrant paintings during her transition, we learn how her wife, Marcia, coped with the shift and forged a new meaning for compromise.

Ultimately, this film succeeds because it’s ideologically unencumbered, committed only to the emotional truth of the story, and revolves around the theme of love. SGC Apr 27, 9: 45 pm, Scotiabank 4; Apr 29, 1: 45 pm TIFF 2; May 3, 9:15 pm, TIFF 2
