CWC D: Mohammad Rasoulof w/ Leila Zare. Iran. 104 min. Sep 9, 8:15 pm AMC 6; Sep 10, 10 am AMC 6; Sep 16, 5:15 pm AMC 10 Rating: NNN Like his countryman Jafar Panahi, Rasoulof is facing a prison sentence and a ban on making ilms. His beautifully executed ilm, “dedicated to all prisoners in Iran,” focuses on a pregnant progressive lawyer ( Zare) whose pregnancy is a deliberate

tactic in her quest to leave Iran. Her husband’s in jail, and she’s no longer allowed to practise law. She’s attractive, intelligent and resourceful. And we empathize with her completely.

With chilling attention to commonplace details, Rasoulof succeeds in showing how the supremacy of the state permeates the everyday life of anyone who questions its authority. PE
