Cruise Don’t Bruise
The Eastern Ottawa Resource Centre held its first-ever “Cruise Don’t Bruise” fundraiser to support its women and violence programs on Saturday, Sept. 11.
Over 100 participants rode on motorcycles across the east end from the centre’s home at Beacon Hill Shopping Centre to its satellite office at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School on Tenth Line Road.
“It was so amazing to see, they just kept coming like ants,” EORC volunteer development coordinator Gayle Downing said in an e-mail to the Orléans Star, noting Ottawa’s other major motorcycle fundraiser, Ride for Dad, had just 15 bikers in its first edition. “We were thrilled beyond belief that it went so well.”
Final fundraising numbers were not yet available, but Downing noted that they certainly raised awareness about the centre’s abuse programs, which helped over 2,000 clients last year.
