Carivibe Double dose of
Carivibe goes from one day to two
rhythms. After the Carivibe Street Parade, Ottawa’s biggest indoor-outdoor Caribbean Block Party will take place on Centrum Blvd. and Shenkman Arts Centre.
Mason said there are lots of exciting things on the horizon, but doesn’t want to give it all away yet.
Last year’s event attracted over 10,000 people to the parade with an additional 8,000 continuing the celebration at the beach. Mason hopes to surpass these numbers in 2012 and have at least 10,000 people partying on the beach.
"The growth has been great," he said. "The first year we had to contend with rainy weather and still had about five to six thousand people on the beach. People come in from all over Canada and the United States. It’s truly a unique event."
City Councillor Bob Monette, who is credited with being instrumental in securing the festival for Orléans is proud that the east end will be hosting Carivibe for a third year. “This is a great opportunity for residents to discover the Caribbean culture while enjoying the various stores and restaurants along St-joseph Blvd."
Mason adds that the yearly event is great for local businesses and that the Quality Inn Hotel in Orléans was at full capacity during last year’s event.
"It’s great for the entire community," he said. "Not only the businesses on St. Joseph but all of Orléans as a whole." Organizers are always accepting accepting sponsors, volunteers, vendors, bands and entertainers. For more information visit info@ carivibe.com
